Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution, is seeking an archive alumni fellow to join the Knowledge Commons in the Harold F. Johnson Library. This is a one-year, grant-funded position with possibility of continuation dependent on future funding.

The archive alumni fellow, reporting to the interim archivist and director of the library and knowledge commons and in collaboration with the systems and discovery librarian, technical services, and the knowledge commons team, will promote the importance of Hampshire’s archive in College, by making archival materials accessible online, adding material to the collection, and supporting student and researcher use of the collection. The archive alumni fellow will be responsible for processing, arranging and describing archival collections. The archive alumni fellow will make archival materials accessible and known by adding digital archives to the compass digital repository and by accessioning materials into the ArchivesSpace collection management system. The fellow will further respond to student research requests, providing individual consultations with students working on assignments, Div III projects, and other academic work. The archive alumni fellow will be committed to contributing to a community of academic support within the library and knowledge commons, and to helping students gain access to the academic resources colocated in the knowledge commons. The goal is to create a rich environment for undergraduates to easily access services, and experience seamless referrals between resources. This position requires working Mondays - Fridays 10-6 PM. During summer months and school breaks, hours shift to Mondays-Fridays 8:30-4:30 PM. 

A recent bachelor’s degree from Hampshire College, awarded between May 2013 and May 2018, is required; coursework in history and/or archives preferred. Successful candidate should possess knowledge of Library Science Professional Standards and understanding of digital librarianship, metadata, and/or archives. The fellow must have excellent oral and written communication, organization, technology, and problem-solving skills. An interest in pursuing a career in librarianship, metadata, and/or archives is desirable. A commitment to working with people from diverse backgrounds, and empowering students of all abilities is essential.
