Leadership Giving Officer

Hampshire College, an independent, innovative, liberal arts institution and member of the Five College consortium, is accepting applications for an advancement officer.

The Leadership Giving Officer will be an effective advocate for Hampshire and its needs, connecting with prospects, donors, and volunteers to champion the College’s mission and foster greater outreach to donors and prospects at all giving levels. Strong focus will be placed on the identification, cultivation, and engagement of leadership donors to secure increased philanthropic support and the identification of new opportunities to build and sustain the overall mission of Hampshire.

Duties include generating significant revenue through the solicitation of leadership gifts and annual giving; traveling regionally and throughout the U.S. to meet with and motivate donors and prospects to support the College; organizing social gatherings, events, and individual donor meetings on and off campus; and communicating with donors via email and phone to thank them, following up after meetings, and keeping them apprised of college initiatives and activities, and the impact and influence of gifts. The Leadership Giving Officer will be expected to keep prospects and donors aware of emergent ideas, programs, and initiatives underway at the College, and develop understanding of donor interests and inclination. The position also drafts and negotiates gift agreements.

A four year college degree or equivalent, and strong written and verbal communication skills are required. This position will require a minimum of five years of success in direct fundraising at a leadership giving level; working knowledge of charitable giving rules and regulations, financial structuring of gifts or pledges, including planned gifts; and experience in higher education (or closely related field) and management experieice are desirable.
