Hampshire College, an independent, innovative, liberal arts institution and member of the Five College consortium, is accepting applications for a leadership giving officer in the office of college advancement.

The leadership giving officer (LGO) is responsible for qualifying and cultivating sustainable and meaningful relationships with and soliciting contributions from a portfolio of 100 to 200 current and prospective donors who have an estimated capacity of making gifts of $10,000 or more annually. This primarily requires traveling to meet with prospects and determining their interests, concerns, and philanthropic capacity; developing strategies to engage them with the College, matching their interests with appropriate college funding opportunities; and soliciting their support. The LGO is responsible for a high degree of collaboration with other units and colleagues within Advancement, with senior administrators and faculty, as well as occasional interaction with the President and members of the Board of Trustees.

The LGO will be responsible for generating significant revenue through the solicitation of leadership gifts and annual giving; traveling regionally and throughout the U.S. to meet with and motivate donors and prospects to support the College; organizing social gatherings, events, and individual donor meetings on and off campus; and communicating with donors via email and phone to express gratitude for their support, following up after meetings, and keeping them apprised of college initiatives and activities, as well as the impact and influence of gifts. The LGO will be expected to proactively keep prospects and donors aware of emergent ideas, programs, and initiatives underway at the College, and develop understanding of donor interests and inclination. This position drafts and negotiates gift agreements.

A bachelor’s degree or equivalent with a minimum of two years of job related experience is required. Ideal candidate will have strong written and verbal communication skills; success in direct fundraising, with a working knowledge of charitable giving rules and regulations, financial structuring of gifts or pledges, including planned gifts; and experience in higher education (or closely related field). A commitment to working with people from diverse backgrounds is essential. This position requires travel to and within unfamiliar cities and regions as well as occasional evening and weekends. This position requires a valid driver’s license and must successfully meet the requirements of Hampshire College’s driver credentialing policy.
