Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution and member of the Five College consortium, seeks a highly accomplished financial professional for the position of assistant controller.

The assistant controller reports to the controller and serves as an integral resource for members of the College community for various financial services.  The assistant controller is responsible for various treasury functions, tax reporting, and general financial management functions to include: accounting, banking and cash flow management, budgeting, financial reporting, and internal and external auditing

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration is required. A minimum of five years progressively responsible relevant accounting and financial management preferably in a higher education or not-for-profit setting also required. Previous supervisory experience is essential. The selected candidate must have considerable knowledge of accounting principles and practices to include the recording, classifying, and examination of financial transactions; ability to analyze financial data, recognize errors, and implement corrections. Additionally, candidate must possess strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills; have demonstrated abilities with computer programs including spreadsheets and accounting systems; possess thorough understanding of month-end closing processes and reconciliations; have familiarity with fund or project accounting; and have the ability to work independently. This position requires integrity and sound judgment, leadership and communication skills, and experience in financial systems (knowledge of or experience with Colleague would be ideal). The selected individual must be a strategic thinker and should be skilled in communicating financial information to a diverse set of constituencies in a collegial environment. The selected candidate must be able to establish their own work plan and prioritize activities to ensure timely completion of assigned work. Candidate must be able to lift a minimum of 25 lbs.   A commitment to working with people from diverse backgrounds is essential.
