Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution and member of the Five College consortium, is accepting applications for an environmental health and safety  manager.

The environmental health and safety (EH&S)  manager oversees and implements all aspects of worker safety and environmental compliance at Hampshire College. The manager administers, coordinates, and acts as the primary point of contact for regulatory compliance programs as required by OSHA, U.S EPA, U.S. FDA, U.S. DOR, Massachusetts Department of Labor and Industries, Massachusetts Department of Public Health, Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, and other applicable regulatory agencies. Duties include, but are not limited to: provides the College with safety training resources, and establishes policies and safe work practices for those workers at occupational risk; maintains centralized compliance records; conducts periodic compliance reviews; provides and documents new employee and periodic refresher safety training to faculty and staff as required; and supports and enhances campus sustainability culture through collaborative work with students, faculty and campus stakeholders. The EH&S manager serves as chemical hygiene officer as required by 29 CFR 1910.1450, emergency coordinator (hazardous waste) as required by 310 CMR 30.00 and 29 CFR 1910.20, underground storage tank A/B operator, and a representative of EH&S on applicable campus committees.

Bachelor's degree in occupational health, engineering, environmental science, chemistry or a related field with a minimum of five years job related experience is required; two years experience implementing an environmental compliance or safety program is also required. It is highly preferred that the qualified candidate be a certified industrial hygienist (CIH), or have the ability to obtain that certification within one year, and have participated in the OSHA Hazwoper 40-hour training.  Educational or institutional experience is highly preferred.
