Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution and member of the Five College consortium, is accepting applications for a 3-year position as Visiting Assistant Professor of Education Studies to begin in the fall of 2014.

We seek applications from scholars in the areas of social or cultural foundations of education, urban education, multicultural education and/or critical youth studies.  Successful candidates will have experiences with teaching and research related to K-12 schooling and draw on one or more critical approaches in education such as critical race studies, feminist studies, queer studies or critical policy analysis. We are especially interested in candidates who can teach courses that familiarize students with methodologies such as community engaged research, ethnography, participatory action research or other interpretive methodologies.

The position is affiliated with the School of Critical Social Inquiry and the candidate will be expected to contribute to the interdisciplinary program in Critical Studies of Childhood, Youth, and Learning, and the Five College Teacher Licensure Program. Responsibilities include instruction of four courses per year, mentoring students on independent projects, and advising.  A Ph.D. is preferred.
