Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution and member of the Five College consortium, is accepting applications for the position of Director of the James Baldwin Scholars Program, which is designed to recruit, retain and graduate students from underserved communities.

The Director of the James Baldwin Scholars Program reports directly to the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty, and is responsible for providing vision, leadership and administration of a signature academic advising, preparation and support program. The director facilitates the development of a collaborative community of students; advises students with sensitivity, honesty and discretion; and develops and supports students' academic and co-curricular interests. Working collaboratively with faculty across Hampshire’s five schools and with college support staff, the director ensures that Baldwin Scholars, talented young people with intellectual depth and leadership promise, thrive at and graduate from the College. Doing so regularly involves interacting with diverse constituencies and critical offices, particularly admissions, advising, financial aid, and advancement. The director is also responsible for building relationships with appropriate schools, colleges and academic support programs nationally.

An advanced degree is required with a minimum of five year’s relevant experience working with historically disadvantaged college students within an opportunity program, or other program with similar mission. Qualified candidates must possess outstanding verbal and written communication skills, and have the ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.  Prior experience with student information database applications, i.e. Datatel, is highly desirable. Knowledge of college admissions, financial aid process, first year experience programming, and general resources available to students within higher education is a plus. Previous supervisory experience is desirable.  Bilingual English/ Spanish preferred. A commitment to working with people from diverse backgrounds is essential.
