Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution and member of the Five College consortium, is accepting applications for associate dean of students and director of residence life in the student life division.

The associate dean and director of residence life is a senior leadership position in the division of Student Life with direct responsibility for the oversight for the College's residence life and housing functions, including coordinating staff efforts and unit processes to align with divisional and campus wide priorities, developing residential communities that promote student success, and managing effective office procedures.   The College’s new strategic plan includes a clear focus on the residential experience, including the enhancement of living/learning communities and other residential programs as well as the possibility of building new student residences.  Candidates with experience in these areas are strongly encouraged to apply for this exciting career opportunity.  

Reporting directly to the dean of students, the associate dean and director supervises and leads professional staff, several of whom serve in an on-call capacity, administrative support staff, and the student residence life staff.  This position participates in overall management of Student Life division and may be asked to serve as a temporary appointed leader of the division in the absence of the Dean of Students.  The associate dean and director also participates in the emergency response “on call” duty rotation and has a role in the adjudication of student conduct, as well.

An advanced degree in student personnel, counseling, higher education or related area which could include MBA or MPA fields of study, with a minimum of 5 years job-related experience is required. Qualified candidate must have a demonstrated success in higher education program management and leadership, particularly regarding student housing, leadership and management of student housing staff and programs, and standard business practices pertaining to student housing.  Candidates must have an understanding of Student Development Theory and ability to work effectively with a diverse student population is essential; and the ability to function independently and to complete projects with limited supervision; demonstrated ability to manage ambiguity and collaborative decision making structures; excellent verbal, written, organizational, and interpersonal skills; strong problem-solving skills; and excellent supervisory skills.  Applicants should have knowledge of Title IX regulations, practices, and investigation procedures.  Successful candidates should be comfortable and have experience with presenting and training to groups; demonstrated ability to work with computer systems including Microsoft Office Suite, Information Management (Datatel), and social media applications.
