Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution and member of the Five College consortium, is accepting applications for an assistant director of alumni and family relations in the Office of College Advancement. This position is specially funded for four years.

The assistant director of alumni and family relations will take a leadership role in cultivating support for Hampshire College by building and strengthening relationships with a diverse base of alums and parents. Working with a high level of independent skill and judgement, this position will spearhead regional programming and volunteer opportunities for alumni and families. The assistant director will build relationships, cultivate volunteers and inspire connections between alumni to build dynamic and active alumni communities in assigned regions. Key responsibilities include: identifying and cultivating volunteer leaders; developing creative regional events and programs; fostering enthusiasm and support for the College; and working collaboratively with campus partners to enhance and promote alumni career services, volunteer and engagement opportunities.  This position will be responsible for coordinating several arts-affinity programs for alumni authors and filmmakers, managing recognition and gifts for alum achievements and awards, and staffing on-campus and regional events as needed. The assistant director will travel regularly to assigned regions and spend a significant portion of their time personally communicating and meeting with alumni and parents to build relationships.

A bachelor’s degree with three years of job related experience is required; experience in higher education preferred. Candidate should be outgoing, creative, energized by working with people, able to exercise independent judgment, and have a demonstrated ability to recruit, engage and manage volunteers.  The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills; proven ability to build and strengthen relationships with diverse constituents; comfort with fund-raising; and ability to work collaboratively as part of a team. Some evening and weekend is required, with regular travel. This position requires a valid driver’s license and candidate must successfully meet the requirements of Hampshire College’s driver credentialing policy.
