Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution and member of the Five College consortium, is accepting applications for a director of summer academic programs. This is a two-year position with possibility of continuation.

Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs, the director of summer academic programs is the lead staff member on the development and management of the College's Summer Academic and Pre-College Programs designed to reflect Hampshire's mission to foster a lifelong passion for learning, critical inquiry, and ethical citizenship that inspires students to contribute to knowledge, justice, and positive change in the world and, by doing so, to transform higher education.  The director develops and implements all aspects of financial, academic and administrative policies and procedures for Summer Academic Programs and Pre-College programs at the College, including acting as the primary contact for all internal and external inquiries, for all prospective and enrolled students and for all parents and/or advisors of pre-college, undergraduate, post-BA and graduate students. The director is a key facilitator and liason of both administrative and academic advisory groups who help manage and oversee the implementation of summer academic programs and directs all core administrative services, including review of admission and financial aid procedures, curriculum, instructional staff, residential education (staffing and programs), housing, meals, and registration. This position requires proficiency with project management, budgeting and strategic planning, fundraising, and academic program development.

The director of summer academic programs works very closely with faculty directors for each undergraduate and pre-college program to coordinate currciulum, program-specific marketing outreach, enrollment, weekly faculty and staff meetings, overview of planning process, hiring of guest instructional staff and schedule management for each program week. This position must hire, train and supervise all summer staff--each summer program is staffed with 1-2 primary coordinators who live on campus and run the day-to-day operations alongside program faculty. The director must set and meet important revenue projection goals each summer, and run careful analysis in partnership with business office staff and the Office of the Dean of Faculty on which programs will continue based on content delivery, financial performance and other significant factors to the College such as but not limited to brand awareness, notable curriculum and/or academic outcomes, and impact on admissions.

Master's degree is required, preferably in higher education administration; advanced degree is preferred. A minimum five years related experience is required; experience managing an academic program or similar division and student advisement strongly preferred. The successful candidate must demonstrate excellent qualitative and quantitative analysis skills and research methods; be able to use discretion and maintain confidentiality, exercise sound and independent judgment and perform detailed work with precision; have strong organizational, oral, written, communication and interpersonal skills; and be able to work well under pressure with short deadlines and changing priorities as needed.  Individual must be energetic and have a sense of humor.  The ideal candidate must possess the following skills:  global/strategic and systematic thinking; connection to and understanding of academic programs; prior project management experience in developing and planning programs; budget management; leadership; time management; technical skills including spreadsheets, budget analysis, web content management; and supervisory experience. A commitment to working with diverse constituency groups is essential. The director of summer academic programs must be able to work a flexible schedule which includes evenings and weekends.
