Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution and member of the Five College consortium is accepting applications for an InfoBar, Interlibrary Loan, and Reserves associate to join the team in the Harold F. Johnson Library.

Reporting to the access services supervisor, the InfoBar, Interlibrary Loan (ILL), and Reserves associate shares in the supervision of student circulation assistants, and assists in all general circulation services at the library's main service point, the InfoBar.  The associate is responsible for providing interlibrary loan and document delivery services to the Hampshire College Community, as well as networking with libraries worldwide through the use of OCLC and ILLiad and keeping abreast of any new developments. One of the responsibilities of the associate is the efficient management and maintenance of the print reserve collection.  Duties include working closely with faculty to ensure their reserve lists are completed in a timely and courteous manner;  and working with Five-College reserve staff for loans of materials needed for course reserves and cataloging them into the Integrated Library System (ILS).  In addition, the associate works at the circulation desk to check library materials, register new patrons, place holds on items, run reports using the library system software (Aleph), and provide information to customers regarding library procedures and the use of equipment such as copy machines, card vending machines, book scanners, microfilm scanner/printers and OPACs.  The associate coordinates the "Patron Request Item" function; maintains library shelving carts and book stacks; searches stacks for missing books; and pages materials from stacks for Five College delivery. The InfoBar, ILL and Reserves associate takes the initiative to ensure the collections are well maintained, that the building is clean, accessible and operational, and that patrons and colleagues are treated in a professional and tactful manner.

Bachelors degree is required with two years minimum circulation, Interlibrary Loan, reserves, or other relevant library experience with responsibility for troubleshooting systems included. Experience with OCLC, ILLiad, library acquisitions, and an Integrated Library System (e.g. ExLibris Aleph) preferred.  The InfoBar, ILL & Reserves associate must have excellent oral and written communication, organization, and problem-solving skills, excellent knowledge of MS Office products, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Skills in and  understanding of  library methods, procedures, and the use of specific library tools is necessary.  Successful candidiate should have a strong record of progressively responsible leadership, managerial, and supervisory experience preferably in an academic environment; be pro-active and be able to initiate projects; and possess creativity with passion for supporting a collaborative work environment. A demonstrated commitment to work effectively with a diverse group of faculty, students, administrators, staff, and customers is essential. The InfoBar, ILL and Reserves associate should have an enthusiastic service orientation with sensitivity to the needs of users at all skill levels; the ability to convey technical information to a non-technical audience; and be able  to maintain a professional and tactful approach in all interactions, ensuring confidentiality and an individual’s right to privacy regarding appropriate information. Flexibility to accept, manage, and incorporate change, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously and effectively in a fast-paced environment is crucial. This position requires flexibility with a schedule that includes nights and weekends, and ability to travel in the consortia to professional meetings and events as needed. This is a full time, 35 hr. /wk. benefited position with a schedule of Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday: 10:00 am – 6:00 pm; Friday: 2:00-10:00 pm; and Saturday: 9:30-5:30 pm.   Hours may vary in the summer and during breaks; schedule is subject to change depending on the needs of the library.
