Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution and member of the Five College consortium, is accepting applications for an InfoBar evening associate to join the team in the Harold F. Johnson Library.

Reporting to the access services supervisor, the InfoBar evening associate is the supervisor in charge at night during the academic year and summer programs. The evening associate oversees the Airport Lounge, the library's 24-hour study space; performs a variety of library public service and clerical duties in support of the Access Services Department; and takes the lead on Stacks Maintenance and its duties. The evening associate is responsible for all functions related to patrons’ library bills and fines, which includes processing bills from the online library system, preparing manual bills and fines for lost, damaged and recalled materials, checking bills for errors, transmitting bills to financial services and the Five-College libraries, and answering patrons’ billing questions.  In addition, this position requires working with Five-College billing staff to transmit Five-College fines and bills, yearly Five-College billing reconciliation, and attend yearly billing meetings.  Responsibilities also include working at the circulation desk where the evening associate will provide general information on library services and answer inquiries regarding basic circulation policies, check library materials, register new patrons, place holds on items, run reports using the library system software (Aleph), and provide information on the use of equipment. The evening associate will serve as a backup for Reserves and Interlibrary Loan, and will complete any unfinished processing from the day shift.  The InfoBar evening associate will also assist with training, supervision, and evaluation of student workers.

Bachelors degree is required with two years minimum circulation, Interlibrary Loan, Reserves, or other relevant library experience with responsibility for troubleshooting systems included. Experience with OCLC, ILLiad, library acquisitions, and an Integrated Library System (e.g. ExLibris Aleph) preferred.  The InfoBar evening associate must have excellent oral and written communication, organization, and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Proficiency with a/v software; excellent knowledge of MS Office products; and comfort dealing with numbers and the processing of financial information preferred. Skills in understanding established billing principals, library methods, procedures, and the use of specific library tools is necessary.  Successful candidiate should have a strong record of progressively responsible leadership, managerial, and supervisory experience preferably in an academic environment; be pro-active and be able to initiate projects; and possess creativity with passion for supporting a collaborative work environment. A demonstrated commitment to work effectively with a diverse group of faculty, students, administrators, staff, and customers is essential. The InfoBar evening associate should have an enthusiastic service orientation with sensitivity to the needs of users at all skill levels; the ability to convey technical information to a non-technical audience; and be able  to maintain a professional and tactful approach in all interactions, ensuring confidentiality and an individual’s right to privacy regarding appropriate information. Flexibility to accept, manage, and incorporate change, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously and effectively in a fast-paced environment is crucial. This position requires flexibility with a schedule that includes nights and weekends, and ability to travel in the consortia to professional meetings and events as needed. This is a full time, 35 hr. /wk. benefited position with a schedule of Sunday: 9:30 am-5:30 pm;  Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday:  4 pm – midnight; and Thursday: 2-10 pm.   Hours may vary in the summer and during breaks; schedule is subject to change depending on the needs of the library.
