Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution and member of the Five College consortium, is accepting applications for a director of multicultural and international student services to oversee and coordinate support services for U.S. multicultural students and international students.

Reporting to the dean of students, the director of multicultural and international student services (MISS) provides supervision to multicultural & international student services and the Lebrón-Wiggins-Pran Cultural Center. They direct and manage all functions, resources and services of the Lebrón-Wiggins-Pran Cultural Center, including budget, coordination of program development and implementation, supervision of student staff and volunteers; may help supervise the Community Advocacy student staff and the Community Advocacy Union student group; assist with SEVIS compliance efforts for degree seeking international student visas. In addition, this position serves as advisor to SOURCE (Students of Underrepresented Cultures and Ethnicities) and its multicultural student groups to provide direct and individual assistance to students confronting social difficulties in the community. The director of MISS creates and coordinates programs and support systems for multicultural students, international students, and larger campus community that address issues of diversity, intersectionality, and social under-representation.  The director works with key campus offices to increase awareness, knowledge, and skills to improve academic and student life support for marginalized student populations (including but not limited to ableism, classism, cultural identity, race/ethnicity, trans identity, and spirituality identity). The director also serves as part of the leadership team in the division of Student Life to provide guidance on policy, protocol, and improvements for students of color, underrepresented students, first generation students, and other marginalized students. The director of MISS advises on policies and protocols that can help affect an actively anti-racist campus, within the Student Life division and with campus partners.  This position holds supervisory responsibilities.

The director of MISS supervises staff members who serve as PDSO (Principal Designated School Official) for F-1 student visa program, and may serve as a DSO or international student adviser when necessary.  This position will provide guidance on development and review of intra and inter department policies and procedures for college and student visa compliance; and update and maintain changes to students' SEVIS records for F-1 degree seeking students including: initial student reporting, active student reporting, draft student records for transfers, initial records for transfers, program completion, all SEVIS actions pertinent to maintaining F-1 status, exceptions to full-time status, changing majors or fields of study, program extensions, reinstatement, OPT/CPT, OPT extensions, OPT validation, and change of address notification.  The director may prepare federally required updates to the College’s SEVIS F-1 program and serve as 24 hour on-call for student visa emergencies.

Bachelor’s degree with five years of job-related experience is required; course work or an academic concentration in critical race theory, de-colonial or post colonial analysis is preferred. Successful candidate will possess strong organizational, analytical, oral, written, and interpersonal skills, as well as excellent supervision and mediation skills. The ideal candidate must have a sensitivity to and understanding of the challenges faced by socially underrepresented groups in educational contexts (including but not limited to gender identity, sexual orientation, class, race/ethnicity, nationality, spirituality/religion); experience working in a college/university setting with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, and staff; and experience working individually with students to help them address their academic and student life needs. Previous organizing experience with Black and Brown communities is required.The director of MISS should have recent international student advising experience and knowledge of current non-immigration regulations and SEVIS procedures as they apply to foreign nationals in F status; ability to resolve complex non-immigration issues; committed to understanding the needs of a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff and able to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds; attention to details; ability to handle multiple responsibilities; and experience with word processing and databases.
