Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution and member of the Five College consortium, is accepting applications for a director of wellness promotion to oversee the development of strategic plans, goals, and measurable objectives for student wellness.

Reporting to the dean of students, the director of wellness promotion provides leadership for comprehensive and evidence-based health education and wellness promotion programs, including but not limited to strategies to promote students' resilience and overall integrated health and wellness, relaxation and stress reduction, alcohol and substance abuse prevention initiatives, and other related topics. Through collaborative relationships with key offices in Student Life and Academic Affairs, the director will take a leading role with campus-wide initiatives, such as going smoke-free, and assist with the development and delivery of coordinated community wellness messages to the campus community. The director advises the College’s student-focused Wellness Center, oversees the development and delivery of educational programming, and works as a partner with the staff of Health & Counseling Services to plan, evaluate, and market campus services for student health and wellness. This position will hire, train, and supervise work-study students and student volunteers who support health and wellness promotion activities on campus; oversee the management of a student peer wellness educator program; and advise or co-advise student groups that provide a variety of wellness programs to students and key campus partners. The director will be expected to provide daily mentoring and task advising of student workers.

Advanced degree in a related field, e.g., health promotion, health education, health advocacy, public health or health-policy with a minimum of three years job-related experience is required. Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES), Certified in Public Health (CPH) or eligible is preferred. Successful candidate must have knowledge and experience developing evidenced-based theory based programs, including community and individual behavior change models; knowledge of and experience presenting on issues related to college health promotion, healthy relationship dynamics, sexual violence prevention, and/or college student alcohol and substance abuse harm reduction; and knowledge and understanding of domestic violence and sexual assault issues. The director must have capability of conducting needs assessments and using results to guide programmatic decisions, institutional strategies, and budget allocations; sensitivity to and understanding of the challenges faced by socially underrepresented groups in educational contexts (including but not limited to gender identity, sexual orientation, class, race/ethnicity, nationality spirituality/religion); and skill working one-on-one with students in helping them address their health and wellness needs is essential. Experience working with victims of sexual assault or relationship abuse is preferred. Candidate should possess strong organizational, analytical, oral, written, facilitation and interpersonal skills; be able to utilize multiple forms of media in the dissemination of educational and health promotion materials; and have experience working in a college/university setting with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, and staff. A commitment to working with people from diverse backgrounds is essential. This positon requires occasional evenings and weekends as needed.

This full time, 11-month, benefited position has an employment cycle of August 1st through June 30th, and holds a grade 6 in the Hampshire College staff salary grading schedule.
