Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution and member of the Five College consortium is accepting applications for director of institutional research.

The director of institutional research designs, directs, and provides leadership and guidance for a college-wide research program to coordinate all campus institutional research activities and support institutional decision-making. Reporting to the associate vice president of academic affairs under the guidance of the vice president of academic affairs, the director is responsible for all institutional research functions at the College, including but not limited to the leadership and development of a comprehensive institutional research program to support the College’s mission and strategic plan. The director provides hands-on analysis, interpretation of analysis, and coordinates the collection of data by others campus wide for the preparation of reports for both internal and external use and distribution. In addition, the director will provide information and analytic support to the College’s administrative decision makers in order to facilitate strategic planning, policy making, and support for accreditation, academic planning, retention initiatives, program reviews, student learning, enrollment projections and other processes requiring strategic analysis. 

An advanced degree in statistics, education, social science, business or other related field is required with a minimum of five years of job-related experience. The successful candidate must have experience with quantitative and qualitative research methods and statistics, program productivity and evaluation of institutional programs and initiatives; experience with statistical modeling, reporting solutions, and predictive modeling software; and knowledge of contemporary reporting tools.  Proficiency in constructing, managing and utilizing a data warehouse for institutional analytics is required.  The ideal candidate will have knowledge of national context of/for liberal arts education, federal and consortial data-sharing conventions, regional accreditation requirements, and educational practices at similar institutions across the country. Applicants should have a high level of computer competency, with excellent writing, communication, interpersonal, organization and presentation skills.  The successful candidate will be expected to carry out their duties and functions with a great degree of independence and a high level of accountability, and be able to maintain confidentiality and exercise judgment and discretion. A commitment to working with people from diverse backgrounds is essential.
