Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution and member of the Five College consortium, is accepting applications for a career advisor in our career options resource center (CORC).

The career advisor provides individual career counseling and group workshops for students and alumni covering a range of topics that include finding and applying for internships, jobs, fellowships, and graduate programs; exploring career possibilities; and managing life transitions. Responsibilities include understanding the ways in which class background, privilege, race and racism affect the undergraduate student experience and the student/alumni career path, and applying that understanding to their counseling and workshops. The career advisor collaborates with employers, alumni, faculty, parents, and colleagues to develop career opportunities for students, taking a leadership role with internship programs, including the Colleges’ alumni internships and internship grants. The career advisor makes use of the career services software platform to effectively oversee internship programs; contributes to the development and maintenance of the career website; writes educational content for the web; and performs a variety of administrative duties in support of the career options resource center, the student life division, and the College.

A bachelor’s degree is required; a master’s degree in counseling, higher education, or a related field is preferred.  One year  of relevant experience is also required, preferably in a college environment in career counseling, advising, residential life or other area related to student growth and development. Social justice orientation and experience mentoring and supporting people from underrepresented backgrounds, especially students of color, is a plus.  Successful candidate should possess outstanding writing and editing abilities; excellent  interpersonal problem-solving, program planning and implementation, presentation, and supervisory  skills.  Candidate should be skillful in the use of technology, particularly Microsoft Office and social networking as it relates to career development; be familiar with databases  and/or career office platforms, along with job and internship websites; experience with graphic design and design software is a plus. The career advisor should be a creative, resourceful self-starter able to work independently and as a collaborative member of a team; possess exceptional attention to detail; and have the ability to handle multiple tasks or projects simultaneously.  Candidate must have a demonstrated understanding of how class background, privilege, race and racism affect the undergraduate student experience, and the student/alumni career path.  A commitment to the mission of a liberal arts college and ability to work effectively with the many diverse constituencies in a college environment, is essential. Familiarity with Hampshire College is a plus.

This 12-month, 35 hour-per-week, benefited position holds a grade 5 in the Hampshire College staff salary grading schedule.
