Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution, is seeking a library research alumni fellow to join the Knowledge Commons in the Harold F. Johnson Library. This is a one-year, grant-funded position with possibility of continuation dependent on future funding.

The library research alumni fellow, reporting to the associate librarian for Knowledge Commons and in collaboration with the Hampshire librarians and the Knowledge Commons team, will provide support for student research. The alumni fellow will offer individual consultations with students working on research assignments, Div III projects, and other academic work, and will participate in other research support activities such as creating online research guides, offering research skills workshops and study groups. The library research alumni fellow will be committed to developing a community of academic practice within the library, and helping students gain access to the resources located in the Knowledge Commons (research librarians, Instructional Technology, Media Services, Writing Center, Transformative Speaking Program, Gallery and Quantitative Resource Center.) The goal is to create a rich environment for undergraduates to easily access services, and experience seamless referrals between resources. The alumni fellow will collaborate with members of the Knowledge Commons team to co-create programs and services with students; to build a practice of inclusivity, equity and justice in Knowledge Commons work; to assess how programs and spaces are meeting students' needs; and foster trusting relationships with students and staff.  This position requires working weekend and evening hours.

A recent bachelor’s degree from Hampshire College, awarded between May 2014 and May 2017, is required. The ideal candidate will have experience with a selection of the following skills: conduct research using library resources, including online research databases, the Five College online catalog, primary sources (archival and digital), and the open web; communicate and teach about conceptual aspects of research, including research as a strategic, iterative process,; and software such as Zotero, Microsoft Office, and online chat platforms.  Proficient  writing skills, social media strategy, interpersonal and relational skills, project management, organization skills, and self-motivation are essential. Demonstrated commitment to inclusive and anti-oppressive teaching, learning, and research practices, as well as a commitment to working with people from diverse backgrounds, and empowering students of all abilities is essential. The candidate must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
