Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution and member of the Five College consortium, is accepting applications for an area coordinator/coordinator of identity based housing to begin immediately.

The area coordinator is an active and visible 11-month, live-in professional staff member who provides 24-hour/day leadership and supervision support for a residential community of approximately 200 - 400 students.  The area coordinator creates a community inclusive of diverse populations; provides non-clinical counseling; takes part in after-hours emergency response rotation; plans academic and social programming; develops and supervises 7 – 10 student residential staff; serves as a low-level conduct hearing administrator; and administers housing procedures. Qualified candidate must be able to respond to emergency and crisis situations.

The area coordinator serves as a liaison in Residence Life who must demonstrate experience in supporting students of color, international, LGBTQ and intersectionality. Residence Life and Housing facilitates the continuation of many identity-based housing communities started by students. These residential spaces give support to members of our community with social identities that have been historically marginalized in this country, and strive to counter systemic oppression. This arises from our commitment to fostering diverse, socially just, and inclusive communities.

A graduate degree with a minimum of one-year of job-related experience is required. Previous experiences with community development, programming in a residential setting, multicultural education or advising are strongly preferred. This professional must have an understanding of Student Development Theory; strong supervisory and problem-solving skills; have an attention to detail for budget tracking; and have experience with computer programs and social media applications. Candidate must be able to accommodate a flexible work schedule. This position requires a valid driver’s license and successful completion of the College’s defensive driving training course. The area coordinator must have the ability to go up and down stairs. A commitment to working with people from diverse backgrounds is essential.

The employment cycle for this residential, 11-month, benefited position is July 1st to May 31st and holds a grade 5 in the Hampshire College staff salary grading schedule.  We offer a competitive salary and excellent benefits program. Please submit your cover letter, resume and names/phone numbers of three professional references via our website at https://jobs.hampshire.edu/ .  All applications will be reviewed immediately.
