Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution and member of the Five College consortium, is accepting applications for assistant director of first year experience in the student life division.

The assistant director of first year experience (FYE) will collaborate with the First Year Experience Office team to create a supportive and inclusive environment on campus that complements the academic experience, connects and engages all students with the Hampshire College community, and provides opportunities for on-going personal and professional development. Coordinate and implement programs and activities offered through the First-Year Experience Office, including all orientation and continuing orientation programs, and orientation leader recruitment, training, and supervision.  Serve as a liaison to members of the Hampshire College community in order to foster positive partnerships and facilitate collaborative campus-wide programs, with a focus on engaging students in community building activities. Develop and present developmental programs for the diverse student population served by the First Year Experience Office and assist in the development of other office initiatives. Responsible for oversight, planning, implementation and management of academic and student life programs and support services for incoming and new (first-year and transfer) students.  

This is a grant-funded position with continuation pending future funding.

A bachelor’s degree with a minimum of three years of job-related experience is required. Successful candidate must be extremely skillful with project development and management, be able to handle multiple tasks at one time, and to plan at least 12 months in advance. Candidate must be skillful and experienced in working with college-age population; demonstrate leadership in bringing multiple parties together to produce shared outcomes; be able to manage ambiguous situations; and to discern situations that necessitate confidentiality and be able to maintain their confidential nature. Proficiency with computer systems including Microsoft Office Suite, PowerPoint and InDesign; managing and utilizing social media applications and other forms of digital communications is a must. Excellent verbal, written, organizational and interpersonal skills are also required as is a comfort presenting to a large group.  Strong expertise in working with a diverse population is essential. The assistant director must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
