Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution and member of the Five College consortium, is accepting applications for assistant director in the office of admissions.

The assistant director is responsible for the recruitment and selection of qualified applicants to build a vibrant and diverse student body.  Duties include managing an assigned geographic territory, including contacting and building relationships with prospective and accepted students and traveling ten to twelve weeks per year  to selected geographic areas; traveling to high schools, community colleges, college days/nights/fairs around the country for the purpose of recruiting students and giving large public presentations or holding small personalized counseling sessions as appropriate; and recruiting diverse and academically talented students while serving as the College liaison for prospective students from initial inquiry to enrolled status.  The assistant director will be responsible for interviewing prospective applicants to enhance their interest in the College and to assess their preparation and readiness for study at Hampshire; reading applications for admission, evaluating credentials, and recommending admissions decisions; completing all necessary follow-up acvities designed to enrich an applicant’s interest in Hampshire.; coordinating follow-up activities with prospective students and their parents, school counselors, independent consultants, and alumni to meet enrollment goals for assigned geographic territory; improving the effectiveness of recruitment to the territory assigned; and completing travel within budget responsibility for that assignment and submitting timely and complete expenses.

A bachelor’s degree is required with a minimum of one year of job-related experience; experience working in higher education is strongly preferred. Successful candidate will possess creativity, a high level of interpersonal communication skills, and strong computer and communication skills. Applicants should be results-oriented, energetic individuals who can work in a fast-paced environment with effective decision-making skills and customer service. Qualified applicant must be flexible and adaptable to changing environments; have effective public speaking and presentation skills; a belief in the value of a liberal arts education and passion for Hampshire's unique educational philosophy; and ability to knowledgeably communicate that uniqueness. They must be superbly organized; task and project oriented; and able to work independently while manage multiple tasks frequently without advance warning. The assistant directors must be comfortable navigating challenging conversations; have a commitment to being a part of the larger Hampshire community; be receptive to feedback; and able to take initiative to solve problems as they arise. Experience with the Technolutions Slate platform or a similar CRM is strongly preferred. This position requires a valid driver’s license and must successfully meet the requirements of Hampshire College’s driver credentialing policy.  Candidate must be able to lift a minimum of 25 lbs. A commitment to working with people from diverse backgrounds is essential.
