Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution and member of the Five College consortium, is accepting applications for assistant director of new student experience in the student life division.

The assistant director of new student experience (NSE), as part of the New Student Experience Office team, to run orientation and create a supportive and inclusive environment for all first-year and transfer students. The assistant director connects and engages all new students within the Hampshire College community, and provides opportunities for students to grow socially, academically, and holistically. This position plays a key role in student success, retention, and persistence, developing programs for their successful transition.

The assistant director will coordinate a multi-day fall and spring orientation program for all new students. This position will oversee all aspects of recruitment, hiring, training, and supervision of the 65+ orientation leader team. The assistant director will serve as a liaison to members of the Hampshire College community in order to foster positive partnerships and facilitate collaborative campus-wide programs, with a focus on engaging students in community building activities. This position will design and implement academic and student life programs for our diverse new student population.

A bachelor’s degree with a minimum of three years of job-related experience. Successful candidate must be extremely detail orientated and skillful with project development and management, including implementing large scale programs.  Have a passion for working to increase student retention and developing initiatives to build community among and with new students. Must be able to handle multiple tasks at one time, and to plan months in advance. Candidate must be skillful and experienced in working with college students; including first-generation college students and students from historically underrepresented backgrounds. The candidate must demonstrate leadership in bringing multiple parties together to produce shared outcomes; be able to manage ambiguous situations; and to discern situations that necessitate confidentiality and be able to maintain their confidential nature. Excellent verbal, written, organizational, and interpersonal skills are also required as is a proficiency and comfort presenting to and commanding a large group.  Strong expertise in working with a diverse population is essential. Proficiency with computer systems including Microsoft Office Suite, PowerPoint, and InDesign; managing and utilizing social media applications and other forms of digital communications is a must.  The assistant director must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
