Reporting to Hampshire’s new President, the chief diversity and equity officer (CDEO) will serve as the senior administrator responsible for providing vision and strategic leadership for campus diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. As a member of the President's senior leadership team, the CDEO will support data-informed decision-making related to issues of access, retention, and equity for students, staff, and faculty and provide regular communication to the Hampshire community about the College’s goals, initiatives and progress related to diversity, equity and inclusion.

Born of collaboration nearly fifty years ago by the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, Mt. Holyoke, and Smith Colleges, Hampshire is a progressive institution with an individualized, interdisciplinary curriculum and a rich commitment to community engagement.  Hampshire’s history is one of rich commitment to organizing and activism for environmental, anti-racism, trans activism, and reproductive justice.  Complementing a decades old multiple cultural perspectives requirement, Hampshire’s faculty recently adopted a Race and Power requirement for all first year students. In collaboration with several deans and directors responsible for advancing diversity and inclusion across the College, the CDEO will coordinate existing efforts and introduce new initiatives to further the development of policy, education, and structures that support the College's commitments to active anti-racism, diversity, equity and community engagement.

An advanced degree is required with a minimum of five years of experience directing diversity and inclusion efforts, preferably within higher education.  The ideal candidate will have a documented history of successfully developing and advancing diversity and inclusion programs coupled with in-depth knowledge of theory and practice related to serving a diverse group of constituents including students, faculty, staff, alumni and the community. Candidates should possess excellent interpersonal and communications skills and abilities to inspire, influence and build relationships. In addition, the successful candidate should possess knowledge in higher education administration and have strong project management skills. It is essential that the chief diversity and equity officer be creative, analytical, and oriented to the achievement of specific goals. The officer must have the skills and abilities needed to gather and analyze data, and prepare reports and proposals. The chief diversity and equity officer must have the skills needed to work in a team environment and to effectively communicate with a wide-range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community. This is a full time, benefited position. We offer a competitive salary and excellent benefits program.
