Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution and member of the Five College consortium, is accepting applications for director of multicultural and international student services in the student life division.

The director of multicultural and international student services (MISS) is primarily responsible for providing strategic direction, oversight, and coordination of support services for U.S. multicultural students and international students. Duties will include managing the operations, resources, and services of the Lebron-Wiggins-Pran Cultural Center; serving as advisor to several student groups primarily focused on issues of cultural under-representation; and serving as designated school official (DSO) for the F-1 program to ensure college and student compliance with federal regulations. The director will report to the chief diversity and equity officer (CDEO) with guidance and direction from the associate dean of students. The director also serves as part of the leadership team in the division of student life to provide guidance on policy, protocol, and improvements for the student experience. This position has supervisory responsibilities.

A bachelor’s degree is required; master’s degree and/or related course work or an academic concentration preferred. A minimum of five years job-related experience is also required. Qualified candidate will have sensitivity to and understanding of the challenges faced by socially underrepresented groups in educational contexts (including but not limited to gender identity, sexual orientation, class, race/ethnicity, nationality, spirituality/religion). Experience with programming, facilitating large groups, and understanding of issues of under-representation (particularly multicultural education in an international context); organizing experience with Black and Brown communities; recent international student advising involvement; and knowledge of current non-immigration regulations and SEVIS procedures as they apply to foreign nationals in F status are required.  The director must have strong organizational, analytical, oral, written, and interpersonal skills; experience with supervising a team and excellent supervision and mediation skills; familiarity working one-on-one with students in helping them address their academic and student life needs; and experience working in a college/university setting with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, and staff. The successful candidate must be able to resolve complex non-immigration issues; be committed to understanding the needs of a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff and able to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds;  have excellent interpersonal communication and writing skills with attention to detail; ability to handle multiple responsibilities; and experience with word processing and databases. This position requires occasional evenings and weekends as needed, as well as a valid driver’s license to successfully meet the requirements of Hampshire College’s driver credentialing policy.
