Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution and member of the Five College consortium, is accepting applications for an international student advisor in the student life division.

The international student advisor serves as the primary designated school official (PDSO) and assists the director of multicultural and international student services (MISS) in providing support services for U.S. multicultural students and international students.  As the PDSO, the advisor manages SEVIS compliance efforts for degree seeking international student visas and offers ongoing F-1 visa advising to international students regarding current U.S. immigration policy and institutional policies; and works collaboratively with campus offices regarding federal immigration regulations and international student life needs. The international advisor provides leadership and oversight of International Student Orientation; which include format of program, hiring and training of student orientation leaders, regular communication with participants, assessment of program, and management of budget. The international student advisor provides programming focused on the integration of US racial justice education with international education, as well as programming to support the retention of students of color and international students. The advisor coordinates Hampshire’s International Friends and Family Program, and related programming. The international student advisor offers administrative support for the Lebron-Wiggins-Pran Cultural Center, and works independently on assigned projects.

Bachelor’s degree in college student development, adult education, higher education administration, social justice education or international studies or multicultural education field required; master’s degree preferred. A minimum of 3 years proven experience within the multicultural and international student affairs/services or related field also required; experience with international student college admissions preferred. Qualified candidate must have recent international student advising experience and knowledge of current non-immigration regulations and SEVIS procedures as they apply to foreign nationals in F and J status. Candidates are required to demonstrate significant past experience advising, programming, facilitating large groups, and understanding of issues related to students of color and international students and other intersectional identities. The international student advisor  must have ability to resolve complex non-immigration issues; be committed to understanding the needs of a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff and able to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds; possess excellent interpersonal communication and writing skills with attention to details; ability to handle multiple responsibilities; and experience with word processing and databases. Candidate must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. This position requires occasional evenings and weekends as needed. The international student advisor must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident in order to serve as a *primary designated school official (PDSO) and an alternate responsible officer (ARO) according to federal regulations.
