Hampshire College, an independent, innovative, liberal arts institution and member of the Five College consortium, is accepting applications for a food service baker.

The food service baker prepares baked goods and desserts. Duties include baking breads, pies, cakes, cookies and other pastries as necessary per the provided production and catering sheets; assisting in production planning to meet daily requirements; creating trendy baked items to drive retail sales; ensuring proper presentation, food quality, portion control and maintenance of proper serving temperatures; and following principles of sanitation and safety in handling food and equipment, ensuring corporate and OSHA safety standards are followed. The food service baker will be expected to assist with the completion of production records to include waste tracking, used/unused portions and product shortages; informs supervisor when supplies are low; maintain sanitation and orderliness of all equipment, supplies and utensils within work area; and handle food items appropriately and with all safety regulations in mind during preparation and service.

High School diploma or equivalent, technical certification, and two years working in a high volume restaurant, or college, kitchen are required. Qualified candidate will have a strong passion for, and the motivation to create great quality food adhering to the Hampshire College sustainability commitments. This role requires success at creating vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, and allergen free offerings.

This position will require working knowledge of standard culinary units of measure, current and popular trends in the food service industry, and the ability to replicate these trends; familiarity with the operation of industrial kitchen equipment; and fine knife handling skills as well as the knowledge and ability to use numerous cooking techniques. The person in this position will need to work in a wide temperature range. A commitment to working with people from diverse backgrounds is essential.

This is a 10-month, 40 hour/week benefited position with an employment cycle of August 1 through May 31. We offer a competitive salary and excellent benefits program.
