Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution and member of the Five College consortium with Amherst, Smith, and Mount Holyoke Colleges and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, is accepting applications for a director of budgets and planning in the division of finance and administration.

The director of budgets and planning will be responsible for the development and execution of the annual operating and capital budgets of the College, including sources and uses of operating funds, endowment spending, grants from external sponsors and auxiliary enterprises. The primary focus areas will include budget development, cash flow modeling and multi-year projections, financial analysis and forecasting; budget reconciliation and reporting; and process management.

The director will prepare the annual operating and capital budgets, including setting planning parameters, establishing submission deadlines, and working collaboratively with senior staff on all aspects of the budget and planning process. They will be responsible for the development, implementation and monitoring of the College's expenditure policies and procedures, and review all requests for budget changes prior to approval. This position will directly supervise the business services manager, who oversees the payroll and accounts payable functions and their employees.

A bachelor’s degree with a minimum of five years of job related experience is required. The successful candidate will have demonstrated ability to understand and communicate complex financial performance data. They will have extensive knowledge of accounting, finance and policy development, a willingness to explore new and innovative methodologies, and an understanding of electronical financial systems.  The successful candidate must be able to think strategically and plan in periods of one - five years; exercise a high degree of independent judgement; and possess a collaborative approach to problem solving. The director of budgets and planning must be an excellent communicator and  have the ability to build strong relationships with constituents.  A commitment to working with people from diverse backgrounds is essential.
