Job Title: Center for Design Facility Coordinator

Position Type: Full Time

Schedule: 35 hours/week – 10-month employment cycle August to June

Pay Range/ Status: $21.00 - $22.66 Hour /Non-Exempt

Location: Hampshire College Campus in Amherst, MA

Reports to: Center for Design Facility Manager

Anticipated Start Date: August 23, 2021

We provide residential undergraduate education to nearly 600 students. Each department at Hampshire College contributes to the collaborative culture of the organization and plays an important role in the success of the College. The Center for Design offers a unique laboratory for the exploration of design and fabrication for all Hampshire students.  Featuring a facility equipped for work in a wide range of materials and processes, students may use the facility for academic and personal projects. As part of the Center for Design team, you will be instrumental in the department achieving its mission and goals!

DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Center for Design facility coordinator is responsible for general facility supervision, to include monitoring, training and advising students. The position is responsible for following, implementing, and enforcing Center for Design policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure a safe and productive educational environment. The facility coordinator assists the Center for Design facility manager with the management of the Center for Design to include inventory control; shop cleaning and maintenance; equipment inspection, maintenance, and repair; and other support of facility operations.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Solid competence with a range of design and fabrication skills such as: mechanics, welding, electronics, machining, plastic & sheet metal fabrication, mathematics (including geometry), CAD, woodworking, etc.
  • General computer skills with software applications and web interfaces, to include use of word processing and spreadsheets
  • Written and oral communication skills.Especially skills which enable giving and receiving critical feedback as well as encouragement.
  • Ability to problem-solve both in regards to mechanics and engineering tasks as well as in regards to interpersonal dynamics and conflict resolution
  • Ability to foster a climate of comfort, support, respect and inclusion among all facility users.
  • Passionate about working in an organization that values and promotes diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism.
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATION, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent

Three years job-related experience

Must be able to lift 25-50 pounds

Alternatives to formal education and paid work experience may be considered as equivalent qualifications to include military service/training, volunteering, activism, and other non-traditional programs and experiences related to the position.
