Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution, is seeking a gallery alumni fellow to join the Knowledge Commons in the Harold F. Johnson Library This is a 10-month, grant-funded position with possibility of continuation dependent on future funding.

The gallery alumni fellow, reporting to the director of the gallery, under the supervision of the director of the library and knowledge commons, will provide support and training for students in exhibition-related production, installation, curation, and research. The gallery alumni fellow will be committed to developing a community of artistic practice and knowledge production across campus (including liaising with faculty, staff and students in Studio Arts, Film/Photo, Design Center and other related areas, and particularly in support of Div III work) and help students gain access to the resources colocated in the knowledge commons (research librarians, media services, archives and art collections, writing center etc). The goal is to create a rich environment for undergraduates to easily access services to support their creative production, and to ensure referrals between the resources are seamless. The gallery alumni fellow will develop installation and curation-related Resource Guides to support the development of the Knowledge Commons Peer Mentoring Program. The fellow may also participate in, or lead, instruction sessions for student peer mentors, empowering Gallery student workers to provide installation and exhibition-related support to Hampshire students. The gallery alumni fellow will assist as needed in collections cataloguing, curation, installation, campus programming, and public engagement in the Hampshire College Art Gallery, train and supervise student employees. This position requires working Sundays through Thursdays 1-9 PM. During summer months and school breaks, hours shift to Mondays-Fridays 8:30-4:30 PM.

A recent bachelor’s degree from Hampshire College, awarded between May 2014 and May 2018, is required.The ideal candidate will have experience with a selection of the following skills: Demonstrated experience and creative problem-solving skills in installing a variety of art media in a gallery context: sculpture, painting, installation, video and new media; web applications such as Wordpress, Moodle, Drupal; and software such as Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office. Proficient writing skills, social media strategy, graphic design, interpersonal skills with a collaborative spirit, project management skills, organizational skills, and self-motivation are crucial. Candidate must possess an interest in and ability to connect students with resources, and to identify opportunities for optimizing efficiency and clarity in exhibition procedures. A commitment to working with people from diverse backgrounds, and empowering students of all abilities is essential. The candidate must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.

This is a 10-month, 35 hour /week, benefited position has an employment cycle of August 1 to June 1. We offer a competitive salary and excellent benefits package.
