Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution, is seeking a research and technology alumni fellow to join the Knowledge Commons in the Harold F. Johnson Library. This is a 10-month, grant-funded position with possibility of continuation dependent on future funding.

The research and technology alumni fellow, reporting to the instructional technologist and in collaboration with the Hampshire librarians and the knowledge commons team, will provide support for student research and technology use and for the Knowledge Commons Peer Mentoring Program. The fellow will offer individual consultations with students working on assignments, Div III projects, and other academic work, and will participate in other research and technology support activities (e.g., by creating online research guides). The research and technology alumni fellow will be committed to developing a community of academic support within the knowledge commons, and to helping students gain access to the academic resources colocated in the knowledge commons. The goal is to create a rich environment for undergraduates to easily access services, and experience seamless referrals between resources. This position requires working Sundays through Thursdays 1-9 PM. During summer months and school breaks, hours shift to Mondays-Fridays 8:30-4:30 PM.

A recent bachelor’s degree from Hampshire College, awarded between May 2014 and May 2018, is required.The ideal candidate will have experience with a selection of the following skills: Conduct research using library resources, including online research databases, the Five College online catalog, primary sources (archival and digital), and the open web; communicate and teach about conceptual aspects of research, including authority; source evaluation; research as a strategic, iterative process; scholarship as a conversation; intellectual property concerns; software such as Zotero, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Google Drive, Wordpress. Good writing skills, social media strategy, interpersonal skills, project management, organization skills, self-motivation as well as demonstrated commitment to inclusive and anti-oppressive teaching, learning, and research practices is crucial. Candidate must successfully work across generations (i.e., working with much older colleagues) and bring kindness, respect, and empathy into the workplace. A commitment to working with people from diverse backgrounds, and empowering students of all abilities is essential. The candidate must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.

This is a 10-month, 35 hour /week, benefited position has an employment cycle of August 1 to June 1. We offer a competitive salary and excellent benefits package.
