Director of Survivor Support Services

Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution and member of the Five College consortium, is accepting applications for director of survivor support services in the student life division.

The director of survivor support services is responsible for providing private-confidential survivor support to students and educational violence prevention services for the Hampshire College community related to sexual violence, relationship violence, domestic violence, and stalking. Support services for students include: counseling, referrals to on and off-campus supports, academic assistance, information about reporting options, legal advocacy, and other assistance as needed. Prevention services include educational outreach, student and staff training, social media campaigns, and community dialogues around topics such as identifying warning signs of violence, healthy relationships, bystander intervention, consent, and more. The director will serve as part of the leadership team in the division of student life, providing guidance on policy, protocol, and improvements for the student experience. The director of survivor support services serves as a member of the Title IX team and supervises the deputy Title IX coordinator for students/violence prevention educator. 

An advanced degree with a minimum of three years of job-related experience is required. Successful candidate must have professional experience with counseling around issues of sexual assault, relationship violence, domestic violence, sexual harassment, and stalking through prevention, survivor services, and training. In depth knowledge of issues and dynamics related to sexual assault, relationship violence, domestic violence, sexual harassment, and stalking on college campuses; experience providing educational programs around consent, bystander intervention, survivors supports, and social justice; experience conducting needs assessments and using results to guide programming decisions, institutional strategies, and budget allocations; and background in trauma informed practices focusing on confidentiality, empowerment, and self-determination is required. Ideal candidate will have a demonstrated ability to interact effectively with persons of diverse socio-economic, racial and ethnic, international, and LGBQ/T+ identities, including knowledge and understanding of multicultural approaches to supporting survivors; ability to reach out to, listen to, and provide culturally sensitive services to underrepresented and marginalized student populations is essential. The director must possess an understanding of contemporary best practices for design and implementation of violence prevention programs on college campuses; knowledge of Title IX and Clery guidance and regulations; experience with creating, maintaining, and evaluating non-clinical group based interventions; and ability to understand and maintain survivor confidentiality. Excellent project management skills; ability and willingness to manage flexible workload, multiple tasks, and work some evening and weekend hours; public speaking and facilitation experience; and ability to work collaboratively in a team is required. This position requires the ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs.
