Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution and member of the Five College consortium, is accepting applications for a grants assistant to support the Schools of Cognitive Science and Natural Science.

Reporting to the school administrator for the School of Natural Science, the grants assistant is responsible for managing grants budgets, expenditures, and reporting for faculty and students in the schools of Cognitive Science and Natural Science. This assistant provides administrative support to the budgets, awards and reporting for external grants and endowed funds within the schools, communicating with the school deans, the business office, institutional advancement, and relevant faculty within the schools, and maintaining relevant college web pages. Duties will include making travel arrangements for conferences and other research and educational activities associated with grants, documenting and monitoring expenditures against grant budgets, and informing and assisting Principal Investigators with reports and other aspects of grant compliance. The grants assistant also provides office support for the school offices, and manages any weekly or occasional events for the School of Cognitive Science and Natural Science.

An associate degree with a minimum of two years of job-related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Ideal candidate must have experience with grant administration, particularly for government grants such as NSF, NIH; solid accounting knowledge, excellent budget management, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and proficient proofreading and language skills. Excellent  computer skills with Word, Excel, and Colleague, with aptitude for learning new programs and systems is a must.  The grants assistant will have high-level written, verbal, quantitative, interpersonal, and organizational abilities, and be able to function effectively with a large degree of independence and autonomy. Candidate must be able to lift up to 25 lbs and possess a commitment to working with people from diverse backgrounds.
