Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution and member of the Five College consortium, is accepting applications for an assistant director of event operations for the event services and summer programs office (ESSPO).

Reporting to the director of event services, the assistant director of event operations serves as the primary contact to a broad spectrum of internal and external clients using College facilities for events including: weddings, special occasions, summer camps, conferences, special business functions, college events and meetings.  The assistant director promotes a “one-stop-shop” event management philosophy overseeing the coordination of all support services for a variety of meetings, events, and summer programs/camps including: facility scheduling, room set-ups, equipment rentals, catering, security, media services, housing, and all other pertinent event details for internal and external clients.  Duties include initiating meetings with clients to ensure planning details for upcoming events are communicated properly and implemented effectively; offering suggestions and guidance when appropriate; and providing quality customer service ensuring high-levels of client satisfaction.   The assistant director is responsible for managing up to 50% of the weddings and all other external Red Barn events independently, with minimal support and guidance from the director. Additional responsibilities include managing event and expense budgets for assigned events and programs; and the upselling, proposing and implementing of new, creative ideas so to stay current with event trends. This position will hire, train, schedule, manage, and direct the student and summer employees in ESSPO, as well as  delegate work assignments and supervise progress. The assistant director of event operations will also coordinate all support services for various internal and external camps and summer programs using College facilities during summer months including housing, catering, and facility scheduling/staffing. This position has supervisory responsibilities.

Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of two years of job-related experience is required.  Qualified candidates must have strong organizational and communication skills as well as excellent overall computer skills including advanced knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, and campus calendaring and room scheduling software. The ability to multitask, meet deadlines, work independently, remain calm under pressure, communicate effectively and articulately, and be detailed-oriented is essential. Candidates must be highly motivated and energetic; demonstrate a high degree of judgment, problem solving and resourcefulness; have a commitment to quality and high expectations; and excellent customer service. The assistant director must have the ability to organize, conceptualize and prioritize objectives, and be assertive and persuasive without being aggressive. Previous experience in event coordination is necessary; basic experience in sales and marketing is preferred. Applicants should be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds and work occasional evenings and weekends. This position requires a valid driver’s license and ability to successfully meet the requirements of Hampshire College's driver credentialing policy.
