We provide residential undergraduate education to nearly 700 students. Each department at Hampshire College contributes to the collaborative culture of the organization and plays an important role in the success of the College. The center for academic support and advising (CASA) provides support and assistance to students and advisors to plan and achieve academic goals. CASA monitors students' academic progress and offers a variety of support and programming to faculty and students. As part of the advising team, you will be instrumental in the department achieving its mission and goals!


Reporting directly to the dean of advising, the advising coordinator is responsible for monitoring and coordinating the cyclical functions of the center for academic support and advising, monitoring & maintaining on-line enrollment records for all students, overseeing the management of the budget, assisting the dean with special projects, and manages the office, including staff and student assistants. The advising coordinator performs a variety of duties in support of the advising deans and staff, with specific responsibilities to the dean. They provide direct oversight of the maintenance of all student enrollment records.

As a member of both the advising team and the division of academic affairs, this position is essential to student and community service and experience. The incumbent must feel comfortable working in an often fast-paced organizational framework with shifting and evolving responsibilities. This position collaborates with other advising staff, and a variety of other college offices to meet the department goals, and further the mission of the department and the College. This position participates as a committed member of the advising team in college and division committee work, projects, meetings, events, and overall community development.


  • Extensive knowledge of college policies, academic policies and procedures regarding enrollment.
  • Knowledge of college policies regarding budget management.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, high-level written, oral, interpersonal and organizational abilities and the ability to present to diverse audiences, specifically racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse communities.
  • Must be fluent in Word, Excel (spreadsheets), Google Workspace and be able to quickly learn new systems and embrace updates to existing software.
  • Must have excellent problem-solving skills and be adept at managing crises of all sorts.
  • Must be able to deflate tense situations with students and/or parents and/or faculty members either in person or on the phone.
  • Must be able to manage frequent interruptions.
  • Must be able to read and interpret documents.
  • Must be able to keep office morale high during stressful cycles.
  • Must be able to learn and apply college policies (academic, administrative, financial, disciplinary, etc).
  • Must be able to set priorities, assume responsibility and work independently.
  • Must be able to supervise.
  • Must be able to exercise thoughtful and independent judgment.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Must be able to function in a fast-paced and complex setting, be agile and have the ability to multitask and prioritize.

  • Four-year college degree or equivalent
  • Three years’ of job-related experience
