Pay Range/ Status: $17.00 Hour/ Non-Exempt

Location: Hampshire College Campus in Amherst, MA

Reports to: Director of Event Services

Anticipated Start Date: May 2024

The event services and summer programs office staff are event professionals who are committed to working with the Hampshire community, external organizations, and private individuals to plan events and programs on the campus of Hampshire College. Our staff provides organizational and logistical services that are timely, professional, flexible, and customer-driven.  As part of the event services and summer programs team, you will be instrumental in the department achieving its mission and goals!


The banquet assistant will oversee the hosting of internal and external special events to provide customers with an excellent banquet experience.

As a member of event services & summer programs, this position is essential to student, employee and community service and experience. The incumbent must feel comfortable working in an often fast-paced organizational framework with shifting and evolving responsibilities. This position collaborates with other event services & summer programs staff, and a variety of other college offices to meet the department goals, and further the mission of the department and the College. This position participates as a committed member of the event services & summer programs team in college and division committee work, projects, meetings, events, and overall community development. Availability to work nights and weekends is required.

Required SKILLS:

  • TIPS certified;
  • Knowledge with catering equipment and venue requirements;
  • Knowledge of best practices in the hospitality industry;
  • Interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Passionate about working in an organization that values and promotes diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism;
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds;
  • Demonstrates skill in understanding of cultural differences.


  • CPR and Choke Certified;
  • Experience in a hospitality or food and beverage position;
  • Experience in both front of house and back of house environments.


  • High school diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent
  • One year of job-related experience required

Alternatives to formal education and paid work experience may be considered as equivalent qualifications to include military service/training, volunteering, activism, and other non-traditional programs and experiences related to the position.
