Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution and member of the Five College consortium, is accepting applications for the position of Lead Custodial Supervisor. 

Reporting to the Supervisor of Building Maintenance and Work Order Systems and in accordance with established procedures and standards, the Lead Custodial Supevisor supervises and works with 2 Custodial Supervisors and 12 or more custodians for both the day and evening shifts.  The supervisor oversees these individuals as they perform various tasks including housekeeping; special projects; event setups; snow removal and a number of other general assignmentsThe candidate is also responsible for the administration of the department’s Quality Assurance Program, the purchasing of custodial supplies and equipment, and performs related duties as assigned. The supervisor will be expected to engage and encourage a talented group of professionals to continually develop technical skills, and integrate safe work practices in all aspects of their work. This position requires participation in the Facilities and Grounds after-hours response progam.

Work is both indoors and outdoors and may involve exposure to unpleasant elements and a harsh environment such as extreme temperatures, wind, sunlight, rain, dust, fumes, smoke, loud noises, chemicals, etc. This position includes hands-on custodial responsibilities requiring significant physical activity. Must be able to perform heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs.) for an extended period of time. Position requires a valid driver’s license and must successfully meet the requirements of Hampshire College’s driver credentialing policy. Employment is dependent on successful completion of a pre-employment physical.

High School Diploma or equivalent is required with a minimum of three years custodial supervisory experience, preferably in an academic institution. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of progressively responsible experience managing an effective team, will demonstrate a commitment to superior customer service and collegial decision-making, and possess strong technical skills, including knowledge of the use of all cleaning related equipment. Candidate must be computer literate, and be able to read, write, understand, and give written and verbal instructions in English. This position requires occasional evenings and weekends.
