Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution and member of the Five College consortium, is accepting applications for lead grounds worker in our facilities and grounds department.

Reporting to the director of facilities and grounds, the lead grounds worker provides lead support for the grounds department and personnel in the performance of general campus lawn care road maintenance, landscaping, grounds equipment maintenance, trash and snow removal, furniture moves and event setups, and general vehicle fleet maintenance and repair. The lead grounds worker is responsible for the purchasing of materials and supplies related to the grounds department operation within the department's alloted budget. This position is considered essential personnel and must participate in the facilities and grounds on-call and emergency response needs in regards to weather and special events as directed by the director of facilities and grounds, and be available outside of normal working hours as required by the situation or event, scheduled and unscheduled. A reliable form of transportation is required.

A high school diploma or GED with a minimum of three years job related experience is required; a minimum of two years experience in commercial grounds management and landscape work preferred. Successful candidate should have general knowledge and understanding of grounds management and horticultural practices as related to the New England region. Candidate must have good communication and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated organizational ability. A working knowledge of small engine and equipment repair and maintenance procedures is necessary. This position requires a valid Massachusetts driver’s license and if assigned, a Class I Drivers License and/or a Hoisters License as required for specific equipment use. Candidate must successfully meet the requirements of Hampshire College’s driver credentialing policy and have a DOT Medical Examiners Certificate. The lead grounds worker must be able to perform heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs.) Employment is contingent on passing a pre-employment physical. A commitment to working with people from diverse backgrounds is essential.

This is a 40 hour/week benefited position with a work schedule of Monday-Friday, 6AM to 3PM. We offer a competitive salary and excellent benefits program.
