Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution and member of the Five College consortium, is accepting applications for live–in area coordinators in the office of residence life and student engagement.

The area coordinators report directly to the director of residence life and student engagement and share in the responsibilities for all facets of the residence life program for students living in traditional and apartment style housing. Administrative responsibilities include but are not limited to managing budget for community building, programming, and student staff development. These positions support housing operation functions, including opening and closing of residence halls, access control, and follow-up on facilities and housekeeping concerns. The area coordinators have the opportunity to lead and manage key operational aspects of residence life such as student staff recruitment, student staff annual and in-house training or the Identity Based Housing Program. The area coordinators provide 24-hour/day support and resources as well as provide non-clinical counseling to students in a wide variety of emergency and non-emergency situations, assessing for safety in each case.

An advanced degree with a minimum of one-year job-related experience is required (relevant graduate assistant experience can fulfill the job-related experience requirement). Qualified candidates must have an understanding of Student Development Theory; strong supervisory and problem-solving skills; an attention to detail for budget tracking; and have experience with computer programs and social media applications. Candidates must be able to work collaboratively as a team and have demonstrated judgment to work under pressure in responding to emergency situtions.These positions requires a valid driver’s license and successful completion of the College’s defensive driving training course. A commitment to working with people from diverse backgrounds is essential. Availability to work occasional nights and weekends is required.
