Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution and member of the Five College consortium, is accepting applications for director of prevention and education in the dean of student’s office.

The director of prevention and education reports to the senior director of student affairs and deputy Title IX coordinator. The director is a key member in the division of student life who develops, coordinates and conducts the College’s efforts to provide prevention, training, and awareness programming designed to create and maintain a campus community free from sexual misconduct, relationship violence, discrimination and harassment.  The director provides prevention education programs and resource coordination for victims of sexual assault, intimate partner violence and stalking. These responsibilities are administered in coordination with the College’s Title IX coordinator. Additionally, working collaboratively and in partnership with appropriate divisional and campus departments, the director will coordinate comprehensive and evidence-based alcohol and substance abuse prevention initiatives, including education, prevention and harm reduction regarding high-risk drinking and drug use.

The director of prevention and education is a student development practitioner who cares deeply about forming strong relationships and engaging in meaningful experiences with students, open to new and challenging experiences directed towards professional growth and committed to creating and contributing to an inclusive campus community. The director will develop and implement a comprehensive sexual misconduct prevention education plan and serve as the initial contact person for campus survivors of sexual assault, relationship abuse, and stalking and as a result is responsible for personal advocacy, follow-up contact, and providing appropriate on campus and community referrals for students and/or their families. This position participates in campus-wide events, responds to requests for training, and develops collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, and students. The director will contribute to campus-wide educational initiatives, such as the ENGAGE Day of Learning, New Student Orientation, Community Orientation, and Community Education Day that advance the College’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. Availability to work evenings and weekends is required. 

An advanced degree, preferably in higher education or student affairs administration with a minimum of 3 years job-related experience is required. Successful candidate should possess the following skills:

-Passion about working in an organization that values and promotes diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism.

-In depth knowledge of issues and dynamics related to sexual assault, relationship violence, domestic violence, sexual harassment, and stalking on college campuses

-Professional experience supporting survivors of sexual assault, relationship violence, domestic violence, sexual harassment, and stalking through prevention, survivor services, and training

-Excellent project management skills; ability and willingness to manage flexible workload, multiple tasks, and work some evening and weekend hours

-Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with persons of diverse socioeconomic, racial and ethnic, international, and LGBQ/T+ identities, including knowledge and understanding of multicultural approaches to supporting survivors. 

-Experience creating and providing educational programs around consent, bystander intervention, survivors supports, and social justice

-Experience conducting needs assessments and using results to guide programming decisions, institutional strategies, and budget allocations

-Background in trauma-informed practices focusing on confidentiality, empowerment, and self-determination

-Demonstrated understanding of contemporary best practices for design and implementation of violence prevention programs on college campuses

-Knowledge of Title IX and Clery guidance and regulations

-Experience creating, maintaining, and evaluating non-clinical group based interventions

-Public speaking and facilitation experience

-Ability to understand and maintain survivor privacy and confidentiality

--Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team.

-Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

-Ability to strengthen Hampshire College’s climate for diversity, equity & inclusion.
