Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution and member of the Five College consortium, is accepting applications for an assistant director of campus leadership and activities in the office of residence life and student engagement.

The assistant director of campus leadership and activities (CLA) is a full-time, 12-month, live-on professional staff member who supports the office of residence life and student engagement in its mission to cultivate and enhance students’ involvement on campus. The assistant director of CLA designs and implements co-curricular activities that create an environment that encourages its community members to take personal responsibility in building a community that is fun, happy, vibrant, socially and civically engaged; and a community that values and contributes to each other’s safety, health, and wellness. Co-curricular and social activities designed should facilitate students’ engagement in meaningful experiences at different times of the week, however, particularly during evening and weekend hours.

The assistant director of CLA is a student development practitioner who cares deeply about forming strong relationships and engaging in meaningful experiences with students, who is open to new and challenging experiences directed toward professional growth, and is committed to creating and contributing to an inclusive campus community. The assistant director supervises, mentors and evaluates one professional staff member (CLA financial assistant) as well as student staff, providing daily direction and on-going support. This position provides leadership, advice, supervision, and direction for emerging and seasoned student leaders who represent approximately 50 recognized student groups. The assistant director collaborates with other residence life and student engagement staff, and a variety of offices to meet the department goals, and further the mission of the division of student life. The assistant director of CLA contributes to campus-wide educational initiatives, such as the ENGAGE Day of Learning, New Student Orientation, Community Orientation, and Community Education Day that advance the College’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

An advanced degree with a minimum of 3 years job-related experience is required. Successful candidate should possess the following skills:

-Experience in advising, event planning, and management

-Experience in negotiating, preparing, and executing contracts

-Understanding of Student Development Theory, knowledge of higher education trends and best     practices, administration and governance

-Ability to function independently and complete projects with limited supervision

-Ability to manage ambiguity as well as collaborative decision-making structures

-Experience presenting to groups

-Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population and individuals from diverse backgrounds

-Knowledge and familiarity with risk management policies and procedures

-Strong supervisory skills

-Strong problem-solving skills

-Strong collaborative skills

-Ability to pay close attention to detail for budget tracking

-Familiarity with computer programs: Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, Information management (Colleague), social media applications, student activities platforms, etc.
