Hampshire College, an independent, innovative, liberal arts institution and member of the Five College consortium, is accepting applications for a food service cook.

The food service cook prepares food in accordance with federal, state, and college standards. Duties include preparing high-quality food items according to standardized recipes and instructions to meet production, delivery and service schedules; serving meals or prepares for delivery by using correct portioning, meeting outlined standards, ensuring that food is at the correct temperature and is attractive and tasty; using established ticket collection procedures during service when needed; and being responsible for records from area worked during service periods. The food service cook keeps refrigerators and storerooms clean, neat, and organized per health code standards; operates and maintains kitchen equipment as instructed; assists in production planning, record keeping and reporting as required; and reports needed maintenance, faulty equipment or accidents to the supervisor immediately.

High School diploma or equivalent, technical certification, and two years working in a high volume restaurant, or college, kitchen are required. Qualified candidate will have a strong passion for, and the motivation to create great quality food adhering to the Hampshire College sustainability commitments. This position will require working knowledge of standard culinary units of measure, current and popular trends in the food service industry, and the ability to replicate these trends; familiarity with the operation of industrial kitchen equipment; and fine knife handling skills as well as the knowledge and ability to use numerous cooking techniques. Employee in this position will need to work in a wide temperature range. A commitment to working with people from diverse backgrounds is essential.

This is a 10-month, 40 hour/week benefited position with an employment cycle of August 1 through May 31. The hourly pay rate for this position is $17.00 - $18.00 with excellent benefits program.
