Job Title: Food Service  Cook

Position Type: Full Time Schedule: 40 Hours a week/ 10-month employment cycle August 1 to May 31

Pay Range/ Status: $17.00 - $18.00 Hour Non-Exempt

Location: Hampshire College Campus in Amherst, MA

Reports to: Director of Dining Services

We provide residential undergraduate education to nearly 600 students. Our Dining Services department provides high quality meal services to students, employees, and guests in the form of take-out, dining-in, and catering from multiple locations on campus. The food service cook prepares food in accordance with applicable federal, state and college standards, guidelines and regulations with established policies and procedures. Ensures quality food service is provided at all times. Duties include serving meals or preparing for delivery by using correct portioning, meeting outlined standards, ensuring that food is at the correct temperature and is attractive and tasty. The food service cooks cleans kitchen after preparation and serving, maintaining high standards of cleanliness; stores or discards excess food in accordance with safe food-handling procedures; and maintains good working relationships with coworkers, customers, administrators and managers. Maintains an atmosphere of respect and dignity.

A high school diploma or equivalent is required with two years of experience working in a high volume restaurant, or college, kitchen. Qualified candidate must have a strong passion for, and the motivation to create great quality food adhering to the Hampshire College sustainability commitments. The person in this role will have working knowledge of standard culinary units of measure, current and popular trends in the food service industry, and the ability to replicate these trends. Candidate will be familiar with, and able to operate a wide range of industrial kitchen equipment ie; steamers, convection ovens, tilt skillets, slicers, robot coupe and floor mixers; must have fine knife handling skills as well as the knowledge and ability to use numerous cooking techniques. This position requires working in a wide temperature range.   A commitment to working with people from diverse backgrounds is essential.

This 10-month, 40 hour/week benefited position has an employment cycle of August 1 through May 31. While the position is 40 hours a week, Dining Services employees have some flexibility with scheduling.
