DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The student affairs coordinator (new and transfer student experience and international student services) is a full-time, staff member in the dean of students office, reporting to the director of student affairs (new and transfer student experience and international student services). The director serves as part of the dean of students team, particularly with other director of student affairs, with oversight responsibilities for the coordination of the new and transfer student experience and international student services. The student affairs coordinator assists the director in envisioning and developing programs that support a highly diverse cohort of new students and their transition to Hampshire College, from the start of their first year through their graduation. This position serves as a content expert in orientation, transition, and provision of resources and support for all students at varied stages of their college experience, as well as developing community and a sense of belonging among students and their families.
The coordinator will assist the director in managing the international student services office and serves as a secondary designated school officer (DSO); provide education, support, community, and advocacy to and on behalf of international students and works to create and offer immersive opportunities for co-curricular learning and leadership development; advocates for initiatives that contribute to international students’ sense of belonging and well-being, and contributes to a vibrant global community; serves as a space where the Hampshire community can participate in conversations that expand our collective understanding of global experiences; provide resources and services, facilitates educational and social programs for international student engagement, and supervises student staff; works in collaboration with other student life and campus departments to provide educational, social, and cultural programming that centers and affirms the international student community; build community, provide education, and create skills-building opportunities to synthesize social, academic, personal, political, and career development-related learning and maximize the Hampshire experience. Additionally, acts as a liaison and advocate for ALL students who identify as international—includes not just F-1/J-1 students but dual citizens, permanent residents, third culture students etc. and assist in overseeing and managing the physical space for international students and provides related programming.
The coordinator is a student development practitioner who cares deeply about forming strong relationships and engaging in meaningful experiences with students, open to new and challenging experiences directed towards professional growth. This position needs to be highly visible, maintain strong connections and work successfully with students, faculty, staff, parents and external constituents. The coordinator must have experience in program design and management and feel comfortable working in an evolving, fast-paced organizational framework with shifting responsibilities. The staff member contributes to campus-wide educational initiatives, for instance the ENGAGE Day of Learning, New and Transfer Student Orientation, Community Orientation, and Community Education Day that advances the College’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. As a committed member of the student life team in college and divisional committee work, projects, meetings, retreats and overall community development: assists in the coordination and facilitation of academic courses, co-curricular activities and services for students. Availability to work evenings and weekends is required.

- Understanding of Student Development Theory, knowledge of higher education trends and best practices, administration and governance
- Familiarity with computer programs: Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, information management (Colleague), social media applications, student activities platforms, etc.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATION, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:
- Four-year college degree or equivalent
- Minimum of one year job-related experience
