The Hampshire College Library Center seeks an outstanding individual for the position of Systems and Discovery Librarian.

Reporting to the Director of the Library in a collaborative team environment, the Systems & Discovery Librarian will design, implement, and assess (metadata-reliant) processes and other knowledge discovery strategies to enable access to research resources in all formats. Leads library-wide efforts to optimize a suite of discovery and retrieval systems designed to help users access collections; leveraging relevant technologies to provide user-centric services for information access and discovery in digital and physical realm.

The Librarian will lead the continuous improvement extension and integration of the library’s various systems and search tools; including the library catalog, discovery layer, library website, Electronic Resource Management, institutional repository and other digital delivery platforms.  They will oversee the acquisitions department, and provides cataloging and metadata for resources, and shares expertise, to support across-collection access. This position will facilitate streamline and consolidated access to collections working collaboratively with Circulation and Media Services; and collaborating with colleagues to design, develop, and implement seamless information access services around user workflows, leveraging existing library discovery tools (which include the library online catalog, next-generation faceted discovery tools, e-journal/e-book portals and link resolver) and relevant technologies. In addition, the Librarian provides, monitors, and manages proper cataloging standards and procedures for all materials; collects and analyses system and building usage data to better understand and map services and resources to meet user’s needs; manages the acquisition and control of serial subscriptions and monograph purchases; and develops strong working, collaborative partnerships within the library, with campus IT, the Hampshire community, and Five Colleges, This position supervises, mentors, evaluates, and develops a strong staff with a focus on excellent service.

Master's degree in Library Information Science (ALA Accredited), or equivalent, and a minimum of 3 years of related experience is required. A record of successful leadership, managerial, strategic planning and supervisory experience related to the position; current, innovative and successful experiences with a broad range of library access and technical services, resource sharing, and online catalog, discovery, and other access systems. Knowledge of cataloging standards, authority control, subject analysis, and controlled vocabulary as well as current and emerging metadata standards and tools, including MARCXML, Dublin Core, MODS and METS preferred. Knowledge of XML, XSLT is required.  Candidate should possess strong computer skills and proficiency with heterogeneous operating systems; have demonstrated ability to work with computer hardware and software application related to library services as well as a working familiarity with one or more local library management system, such as ALEPH.  The Librarian should have a strong user focus, possess the initiative and creativity to manage projects both independently and as part of a team, and have a deep commitment to service and outreach in an academic community.
