HVAC Journeyman

Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution and member of the Five College consortium, is accepting applications for a full time HVAC Journeyman to join our Facilities and Grounds Department.

Under the supervision of the HVAC Foreman, the journeyman works with their supervisor and assigned staff to provide journeymen level repairs and maintenance to all campus HVAC building systems within all college owned, rented or leased facilities. In addition, the journeyman assists the supervisor with the daily operation of the HVAC department and management of the College's Energy Management Systems. The HVAC Journeyman must participate in the Facilities On-Call Emergency Response Program, be available for after-hours special events when needed, and be flexible to perform other duties as required.

High School diploma or equivalent is required, as is three years of field experience working as an HVAC technician (2 years trade school training can be substituted for 1 year of the required work experience).  CFC Transition and Recovery Universal Certification is required with Massachusetts Refrigeration Licenses to be obtained within 6 months of employment. Candidate is required to supply own hand tools. Good communication skills, interpersonal skills and a demonstrated organizational ability are a must. 

Work is both indoors and outdoors and may involve exposure to unpleasant elements and a harsh environment such as extreme temperatures, wind, sunlight, rain, dust, fumes, smoke, loud noises, chemicals, etc. Candidate must be able to perform heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs.) for an extended period of time; must be capable of wearing a full body harness for working at heights and in confined spaces; use ladders and lifts. Position requires a valid driver’s license and must successfully meet the requirements of Hampshire College’s driver credentialing policy. Employment is dependent on successful completion of a pre-employment physical. A commitment to working with people from diverse backgrounds required.
