Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution and member of the Five College consortium, is accepting applications for a purchasing assistant.

The purchasing assistant will have an active role in the operation of the purchasing office by providing customer service for external and internal communities, visitor stewardship, trustee stewardship, and parent, student, and staff relationships. The purchasing assistant will provide assistance to internal customers using the Datatel Purchasing Module as well as maintain and monitor the use of the College's purchasing card system administered through JP Morgan Chase.  Duties will include auditing card holders' statements and receipts and administering changes to cardholders' accounts according to established policy.  This position provides guidance to internal customers on policies regarding proper use of these procurement methods and produces and maintains relevant reports to track buyer compliance.  The purchasing assistant provides administrative support to the procurement and auxiliary services director, as well as to the accounts payable function when needed. In addition, the purchasing assistant provides administrative assistance to the business office which includes answering main phone line, ordering office supplies, processing invoices, and maintaining copier supplies. This position is vital to the daily operation of the College therefore excellent attendance and high level customer service is essential.

A high school diploma or equivalent with two years of job-related experience is required.  Qualified candidate should possess excellent verbal, organizational, and interpersonal skills; have intermediate computer skills, such as experience with Microsoft Excel and Word; and must have an attention to detail. Exceptional customer service skills, including proficiency in trouble shooting, problem solving, and conflict resolution is essential. Candidate must be proficient with written communication for campus announcements, office webpages, and email.  The purchasing assistant must be flexible to accommodate and complete special assignments in a fast-paced environment, as well as have a commitment to working with people from diverse backgrounds.
