Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution, is seeking a library research alumni fellow to join the Knowledge Commons in the Harold F. Johnson Library. This is a one-year, grant-funded position with possibility of continuation dependent on future funding.

Reporting to the knowledge commons coordinator, the a library research alumni fellow, in collaboration with the Hamsphire librarians, will offer support for student research, by providing individual consultations with students working on research assignments, Div III projects, and other academic work, as well as participating in other research support activities (e.g., creating online research guides, offering research skills workshops). The library research alumni fellow will be committed to developing a community of academic practice within the library, and helping students gain access to the resources colocated in the Knowledge Commons (research librarians, instructional technology, media services, archives, writing center, transformative speaking program, and quantitiative resource center.) The goal is to create a rich environment for undergraduates to easily access services, and referrals between the resources are seamless.The alumni fellow will train and supervise student employees as peer mentors to develop and support student research.

A recent bachelor’s degree from Hampshire College, awarded between May 2013 and May 2016, is required. The ideal candidate will have experience with a selection of the following skills: conduct research using library resources, including online research databases, the Five College online catalog, primary sources (archival and digital), and the open web; communicate and teach about conceptual aspects of research, including authority, source evaluation, research as a strategic, iterative process, scholarship as a conversation, and intellectual property concerns; and software such as Zotero, Microsoft Office, and online chat platforms.  Proficient  writing skills, social media strategy, interpersonal skills, project management, organization skills, and self-motivating is a must. Demonstrated commitment to inclusive and anti-oppressive teaching, learning, and research practices, as well as acommitment to working with people from diverse backgrounds, and empowering students of all abilities is essential. This position requires occasional evening and weekend hours.
