Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution and member of the Five College consortium, is accepting applications for a general manager to oversee the new Kern Kafe and Prescott Bakery.

The general manager will be responsible for leading all staff members in the efficient and profitable operation of the Kern Kafe, Prescott Bakery, and other dining operations as assigned. Responsibilities will include managing the daily store operations, maintaining high standards and conditions, and fostering a positive environment which provides consistent fast, efficient, and friendly service ensuring a quality experience for customers. The general manager creates the tone and personality of the operation by being an advocate of training, customer service, product knowledge and education; encourages safe work practices; and supports a demonstrated commitment to providing high-quality food and beverage options for the Hampshire College community.

Associates degree or equivalent with a minimum of four years job-related experience is required. Successful candidate must have experience in food purchasing, production, and service, as well as a commitment to quality and high expectations with excellent customer service. ServSafe Certification is also required. The general manager must have proficient computer skills and familiarity with software programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; strong organization skills, be detail-oriented and able to multi-task; excellent verbal and written communication skills; and effective problem solving/decision making abilities. Ideal candidate will be highly motivated and energetic, and demonstrate a high degree of judgment, problem solving and resourcefulness. The general manager will be required to handle food, hot beverages, and work with sharp objects.  Previous supervisory experience, including hiring, training and evaluating personnel is a must. This position requires frequent standing, use of hands and arms, frequent bending and twisting from the waist, and ability to lift up to 30 lbs. A commitment to working with people from diverse backgrounds is essential.  This position requires a valid driver’s license and ability to successfully meet the requirements of the Hampshire College driver credentialing policy.

This is a 12-month, 35-hour per week benefited position which requires flexible hours that may include occasional evening and weekend hours.
