Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution and member of the Five College consortium, is accepting applications for an assistant director in our career options resource center (CORC).

The assistant director of CORC provides individual and group career counseling for students and alumni covering a range of topics that include finding direction, applying for internships, jobs, and graduate programs, making meaning of experiences, and managing transitions. This position provides special attention to students who have been historically underserved as well as those seeking internship experiences. The director also assists with providing health professions and Fulbright advising. The assistant director collaborates with career colleagues, employers, advancement, alumni, faculty, parents, consortium peers, and others to develop new initiatives and implement programs to generate internship, externship, mentoring, job, graduate school and/or career networking opportunities. This position takes a leadership role with internship programs, including the Colleges’ alumni internships and internship grants. The assistant director makes use of our career services software platform to effectively oversee internship programs; collaborates with consortium colleagues; contributes to the development and maintenance of the career website; writes educational guides for the web; and performs a variety of administrative duties in support of the career options resource center, the student life division, and the College.

A bachelor’s degree is required; a master’s degree in counseling, higher education, or a related field is preferred. One year relevant professional experience in career counseling or advising, preferably in a college environment, working with career issues affecting current students, new graduates, and experienced alumni, is also required. The successful candidate should have an active, warm, and informed approach to career counseling with consideration and insight into the developmental and practical aspects of clients in young adulthood through retirement age; and should offer sensitivity and awareness of diverse backgrounds; and demonstrate the ability to relate to individuals and make decisions informed by an understanding of race, ethnicity, class, gender, sexual orientation, religion, nationality, and many other identity-related factors. The assistant director must be skillful in the use of technology, particularly Microsoft Office, social networking tools, and databases; a knowledge of career office platforms is preferred. Ideal candidate will have familiarity with job market resources and trends, such as job and internship search websites, networking opportunities and platforms, job application norms for different industries, and social networking for career advancement. An understanding of career and professional development as it applies to undergraduates and alums, as well as  understanding of employment laws (e.g. AA/EEO, Fair Labor Standards) and higher education laws (e.g. FERPA) is desirable. Outstanding writing and editing abilities, and excellent problem-solving, presentation, planning, and supervisory skills are a must. The assistant director  should be a resourceful self-starter; be able to work independently and as a collaborative member of a team; have exceptional attention to detail; and the ability to handle multiple tasks or projects simultaneously.  A commitment to the mission of a liberal arts college and ability to work effectively with the many constituencies in a college environment, including students, parents, faculty, donors, employers and professional colleagues, is essential.

This 35-hour per week, benefited position holds a grade 5 in the Hampshire College staff salary grading schedule. We offer a competitive salary and excellent benefits program.
