Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution and member of the Five College consortium, is accepting applications for an admissions counselor to represent the College through various recruitment and outreach activities. This position includes the possible option of a mutual contract renewal once the one-year contract is fulfilled.

Working with an exceptional admissions staff, the admissions counselor will recruit and market the College’s interdisciplinary inquiry-based curriculum to diverse audiences.  The counselor will manage a recruitment territory that will matriculate exceptional Hampshire students as well as build and sustain genuine, professional consultative relationships with prospective students. Our ideal candidate will be an energetic and articulate team player who will passionately convey the distinctive qualities and benefits of a Hampshire education. This position requires two months of travel in the fall and one month in the spring.

Bachelor’s degree is required; previous experience working in an educational institution and/or admissions desirable. This position requires creativity, a high level of interpersonal communication skills, and strong computer and telephone skills. The admissions counselor must be results-oriented, energetic, and able to work in a fast paced environment. Effective decision making skills and customer service experience are required. Qualified applicants must be flexible and adaptable to changing environments, have effective public speaking and presentation skills, believe in the value of a liberal arts education, passionate for Hampshire's unique educational philosophy, and posess the ability to knowledgeably communicate that uniqueness. The admissions counselor must be superbly organized, be task and project oriented, be able to work independently and able to quickly manage multiple tasks with ever shifting priorities. Good writing skills are a must. Candidate must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and possess valid driver’s license. Occasional evening and weekend work is required. A demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds is essential.

This full time, benefited position holds a grade 5 in the Hampshire College staff salary grading schedule, and will end one year from start date or no later than June 30, 2018.
