Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution and member of the Five College consortium, is accepting applications for assistant dean of students and director of campus leadership and activities in the student life division.

The assistant dean and director of campus leadership and activities leads the office of campus leadership and activities in its mission to cultivate and support students’ campus involvement and develop co-curricular programs that promote a healthy and vibrant campus community.  The assistant dean hires, supervises, mentors and evaluates three professional staff, providing daily direction and on-going support. The assistant dean and director of campus leadership and activities provides leadership, advice, supervision, and direction for emerging and seasoned student leaders who represent approximately 80 recognized student groups.  This position serves a pivotal role in advising student groups on logistical and risk management considerations for event and trip planning. As assistant dean of students and a leader in the division of student life, this position participates in the emergency response and dean on call rotation for entire campus and adjudicates student conduct cases.

An advanced degree in student personnel, counseling, higher education or related area which could include MBA or MPA fields of study, with three years post-graduate job experience is required. Successful candidate must have knowledge of higher education student life trends and best practices; complimentary understanding of postsecondary education administration and governance; and understanding of research and theory about college student development. Experience in advising, event planning and management; and knowledge of /or familiarity with risk management policies and procedures is required. Ideal candidate should have the ability to function independently and to complete projects with limited supervision; manage ambiguity as well as collaborative decision making structures; have problem-solving skills and experience; and ability to work effectively with a diverse student population. Candidate must be able to work with computer systems including Microsoft Office Suite, Information Management (Colleague), and social media applications. Experience with student activities platforms is also helpful. The assistant dean must be able to effectively present to groups, have previous supervisory experience, and be able to lift up to 25 lbs. This position requires working weekend and evening hours.
